2005 Blog: February

Weekly updates became too tedious to keep up with so last year they were changed to a monthly format.

Scroll down or use the links below to jump to each week of the month.

Week One

This week's theme was "Revival" because The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have finally revived their monthly bingo games.

EVENT: BINGO REVIVAL
I didn't win anything special, but it was still nice to brave the rain and check things out. Wolf brought some lobster hats from Maine and a bunch of his SF pals turned up so we had our own little lobster table.

NEWS: MY PAL WOLF BACK IN TOWN
I think he came back for work, or to check out the bingo, but my pal Wolf was in SF all weekend and he managed to make time for me and we had a nice dinner and a movie. Was it a date? Maybe if he didn't live in Maine...

FILM: IN GOOD COMPANY
What a cute movie. It was very topical and current in a somewhat timeless way. The zeitgeist of the plot may have been too late 90s, but they did a great job of focusing on the human element so that the film transcended the action and background and really explored the unique ways that people have to stretch themselves to remain connected on a human level with those around them. Great date movie and highly rentable.

NEWS: SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
It's the best day of the year to go to Disneyland, but once again, I didn't get down there. I also didn't watch the football game. Perhaps, I squandered the crowd-free day by staying home and working on the computer all day, but I finally finished updating this Website and now all the sections are about as current as they can be.

Week Two

This week's theme was "BORRING" because I didn't do much beyond my regular responsabilities.

EVENT: V-D PARTY
It was raining and cold and my pal Lawrence's party was waaaay out by the ocean, so it was easy to stay home and go to sleep early. GOD, when did I get so borring?

NEWS: TAX TIME ONCE AGAIN
This time, I completed my tax return in early February. GOD, when did I get so responsible?

Week Three

This week's theme is "Celebrations" because romantics celebrated VD, the bears celebrated their return to SF and the Chinese celebrated the start of a new year.

EVENT: ROMANTICS CELEBRATE VD
I had to work and I'm not really dating anyone this year so I didn't do anything to mark this "holiday". I suppose I could have had another "Wanna B Meijn Valentijn" contest, but the first one IN 2001 had a bittersweet ending and I just couldn't get motivated to do it all again this year so I let the day slip by.

EVENT: IBR - THE BEARS ARE BACK IN TOWN
Once again, the bears have returned to San Francisco for their annual International Bear Rendezvous. It's basically a convention for hairy gay men who call themselves bears. They have a beauty contest and a ton of parties. It's always fun to meet new people from all over the world and this event draws such a unique group of guys, it's always pretty fun.

EVENT: 2005 CHINESE NEW YEAR PARADE
It was drizzling a little throughout the evening, but that didn't stop the chickens from coming home to roost as we rang in the Chinses New Year...More of Chinese New Year's Parade

Week Four

This week's theme was "CIVIC DUTIES" because it was the president's day holiday and I had to report for jury duty.

NEWS: PRESIDENT'S DAY
Initially created to group Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays into one official holiday, President's Day has somehow grown to include the shrub. His paid cheerleaders were in full effect on TV and radio as well as in the print media and on the internet. But no amount of punditry can elevate W to the level of 20th president, James Garfield, who was both ambidextrous and multilingual. He could write Greek with one hand while writing Latin with the other. It's interesting to notice that Encarta, the internet based encyclopedia lists the Shrub's rush to marry and impregnate his wife as his most distinguishing characteristic.

EVENT: JURY DUTY (AGAIN)
I got called for jury duty again. I've been called every year for the last five years and I actually got called up twice in 2004. The manager of my building has lived in San Francisco longer than I have and he said he has never been called up at all... it seems unfair and as much as I'd love to be a juror on a real trial like Michael Jackson's, I called every night this week and they never needed me. Now I'm off the hook for a whole year!
