Debates
The SF Mayoral debates took place this week, but they
were only covered on a local station that I can't get anymore
so I missed them. With all of the recall hoopla, it's hard
to get interested in them.
Media Bias Revealed
My views about media bias in
the recall election were vindicated this week when a
study by a policy-research center based on the Berkeley and
Stanford University campuses was released this week revealed
that California governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger benefited
from lopsided media attention during the pivotal first weeks
of his campaign.
The study examined more than 1,500 news stories written by
staff writers for The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San
Francisco Chronicle, and San Jose Mercury News that appeared
between the week of Aug. 6, when major candidates entered
the race, and Oct. 6, the Monday before election day. It found
that just under three-quarters of the stories focused on candidate
Schwarzenegger as their subject. The most offensive finding
of the study showed that the actors wife, Maria
Shriver, was discussed with about the same frequency as Green
Party candidate Peter Camejo. She wasn't even a candidate,
so how can they justify the coverage? Her "celebrity"
as a Kennedy or her involvement with NBC? Perhaps now we can
say if he was married to anyone else, he would still be a
washed up action star.

Election '04
Shrub snubs Cali on his way to Asia
Much was made about the first meeting between Bush and Arnie.
Both men were begging for money and while the Shrub made off
with about a million dollars, Arnie was left empty-handed.
He tried to play it off later when he told reporters that
he didn't even ask for a Federal bail-out. He claimed that
he wanted this first meeting to be about building a rapport.
He promised that when he takes office and audits the books
he'll be in a better position to know what to ask for. It
makes sense so either he's got some pretty atute advisors
or it's just his handlers being master spin doctors. Only
time will tell.

The
Age of Imperialism
Death Toll Higher Than Ever
This week more Americans died because Bush lied.
Priorities
Republicans are far more interested in fixing schools, roads
and infrastructure in Iraq instead of fixing schools, roads,
and infrastructure in America.
