Need A New Watch?

Recently, I joined a group of other bloggers to network and share ideas once a month:

Week Ending 9 November

This week the rain came back and it felt like winter might be here to stay for a while, but the sunshine returned just as suddenly even if it's not strong enough to warm us up much.

Guy Fawkes Day

I got a little homesick for England this week as all the holiday reports trickled in with news of Guy Fawkes Day Celebrations. It's also known as Bonfire Night and commemorates the English Civil War. Many liken it to the American 4th of July because of that, but no one burns Bennedict Arnold in effigy every year (OR DO THEY?)

Ba-Da-Bingo

The political theme was almost ruined when Gavin Newsome didn't show up to pull balls. The sisters didn't let that stop them and the show went on. I forgot to tell Sister Betty that it was Irwin's birthday before things got started so he missed out on getting swatted, but I think he had a good time anyway...

Underground Film Fest

Saturday night Irwin and I went to the Second Annual Underground Short Film Fest. It wrapped up the Midnight Mass film series presented by Peaches Christ. There were about 16 films in the festival this year and the majority were quite good. My pal Jim from Twitch Records entered a music video for a Pussy Tourette song that was really funny. Irwin had trouble keeping awake after about 1am, but a couple light elbow jabs from yours truly took care of it....

Andie Home From Hospital

My pal Andie is finally home from hospital. Apparently she had a rough time of it for the last week or so but she's happy to be back at home and in her own bed. Being at home will be the first step in trying to bloom again, for right now she says she's feeling withered and weak but I know she'll bounce back again and hopefully she'll be better than ever again soon.

Irwin's B-day Dinner Redux

I took the Caltrain bus down to Mountain View for Irwin's second birthday dinner. His older brother was there too so I wasn't the only one to celebrate with more than one fete. This dinner was for his friends who couldn't make last weekend's dinner. We met at Irwin's house then had us a little convoy over to the restaurant for some Chinese food.

Election '03

Post election politics = more of the same.
Once again we're left with Hobson's choice between dumb and dumber or the lesser of two evils or any other pat, cliche used to describe the two halves of our one party system. During the last election we had to choose between "third way centrist" Willie Brown and the "radical leftist" Tom Ammiano. This time Brown's hand-picked heir apparent Gavin Newsome is supposed to represent "the center" while County Supervisor Matt Gonzalez is the second place "radical leftist". He seems to fit the bill; running as a Green Party candidate with a foolish idea to allow illegal aliens to vote in school board elections.

I was shocked to learn that BOTH Brown and Newsome are registered Democrats. Their policies and positions seem more inline with Republicans, though I suppose that was the whole "Third Way" ideal (And you thought it died with Clinton's political future!).

I don't know what I hate more, the fact that all the wealthy Republicans have fooled the electorate with another wolf in sheep's clothing or the fact that the run-off election means an extension of the campaign cycle until December... ugh.

Election '04

Bush cares more about money
The shrub toured areas of California devestated by fire. The photo sessions showed how much he cared for people who lost their homes but they proved how little he cares for people who've lost love ones to the ongoing war in Iraq. After the bloodiest week in the history of the US invasion, news reports revealed that Bush has never once called a family or attended a funeral of any service member killed in Iraq.

Peace IS PatrioticThe Age of Imperialism

Death Toll Higher Than Ever
This week more Americans died because Bush lied. This week was the bloodiest day since this folly began.

Priorities
Republicans are far more interested in fixing schools, roads and infrastructure in Iraq instead of fixing schools, roads, and infrastructure in America.
