Week Ending 16 March

This week I did my best to avoid the news media as much as possible. The shrub's got such a woody for Sadam that it's become far to depressing to deal with. While I feel as helpless as I did when he stole the election, it all seems to be legal so far. Even the indefinate detention of American citizens on Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. So I've decided to deal with the areas of my life that I actually have control over, though that sphere seems to be shrinking daily...

Like Rocket Science type stuffWorkin' It

This week I heard that California has more people out of work right now than it did at the height of the Great Depression. Wow, that's earth-shattering domestic economic news. No wonder Bush is so keen on his 'distract with Iraq' policy. That coupled with the fact that the CIA admitted that North Korea has nuclear weapons fixed on LA AND SF, and I've been seriously considering my options to move house. Trouble is, the job thing needs to get sorted right quick.

On the day-job tip, I sent out a couple of resumes and met with the tall guys to try and 'network' a little. Trouble is, everytime I get in those situations for the last eight months or so they tend to turn into pity parties or swaping outrageous war-stories about how to get the rent paid. I'm still not desparate enough to try the medical experiment thing, so til then I'll have to keep up with the jobless 'one stop shop' and job postings on the web.

SchoolSchool

We got our exams back tonight. I got one of the highest marks in the class, but only because I answered two of the five extra credit questions correctly. I probably could have done better if I spent a little more time on a couple of questions, but when I do that I often talk myself out of the right answer so I've vowed no more second guessing.

The Doctor is IN

I didn't really plan on going out this weekend. It was supposed to rain, even though it only really lasted through Friday. I got a call at 11:30 from DJ Doc Martin basically saying 'where are you?' He doesn't realize that I'm a dork these days and I'm not up on all the club crap in town anymore. By midnight, I was at the club mingling and trying to dance...More for St Pats weekend

Missing a meow

In loving memory: Ellen's feline friend, Guido made his transition this week. While I never met him, I've often heard of his exploits. Ellen summed up her eulogy email by saying, "We were so blessed to have been such close friends with Guido, our sweet, loving, handsome, funny and irresistible buddy, and for the endless fountain of love that he gave to us throughout his 16 (80 equiv.) years of life. We were extremely lucky to know him and share so much of our lives with him."

Peace IS PatrioticDrums of War

This week, PM Tony Blair FINALLY capitulated to the will of his own people and started back-peddling on support for Bush's war. At least now Blair can say he was on board but re-election is self preservation and the Bush administration can certainly understand that. France's vow to veto any new UN resolution means that it looks like the shrub is on his own. Basically, it's looking like the shrub has to have his little war soon so he can put it behind him in time to campaign thru the summer and fall. A later start or longer fight time will cloud the US presidential campaign which could be good or bad for Bush depending on the casualty rates.

Good News: A second career diplomat resigned this week over the shrub's 'systematic distortion of information and public opinion not seen since the vietnam era'. Thank God that people of principle still have the backbone to stand up to this administration's steamroller to conflict.
