Big
Brother is Boring!
With the lame-ass "twist" that turned out to be
nothing more than a re-hash of what they did last year. Jack
was evicted as I predicted... but I didn't watch the show
this week... I just read about it on the BBQ.
I originally made a chart for my pal Irwin to track the shifting
alliances and strategies in the US Big Brother house. You
can see it HERE. Seems
that BB4BBQ.com
found it and put a link on their site. Besides getting a HUGE
boost in traffic to quartknee.com, I got the satisfaction
of knowing that the Internet's largest and most popular Big
Brother fan site appreciates my work. Because I'm so grateful
for the props, I've decided to return the favour and stop
my recaps and commentary in my blog and just send you all
to the BBQ
for that type of thing... not that they need more traffic,
just that they have all the Big Brother info one would ever
need.

Movie Night
My
tall club had our monthly event this weekend. We all went
over to my pal Wolf's house for a movie night. We saw "Bringin'
Down the House" on his mega mackin' home theatre.

Mars
Attacks!
After the movie night, Irwin and I headed over to the Chabot
Observatory in the East Bay. We waited for well over two hours
for the largest telescope. The picture shows the line behind
us at about midnight. By the time it got to be our turn, it
was after 2am and the fog was coming in. When we were about
five people away from looking through the telescope, we hear
the volunteer tell a woman that the aperature is only open
to 8 inches. I was OUTRAGED! We could have waited about 45
minutes for the 8 inch telescope and been home by then...
There were lots of volunteers standing around and some even
answered a few of our questions while we waited, but we never
thought to ask about the aperature settings. We were told
the biggest telescope is best to see details in the surface
of the planet. The fog or atmosphere or whatever blurred the
image and it looked like a pinkish dot at first. I blinked
a couple of times and thought maybe I saw a white bit at the
edge of the pinkish bits so I guess I saw the polar ice cap.
I'm glad I got to see the planet with an amature telescope
in the parking lot before we queued up... maybe it was the
earlier, pre-fog timeframe, but the image was way more sharp.
I suppose I could always wait another 60,000 years for a better
view.

Relaxing Holiday
While I would have loved to have gone to Southern Decadence
this year, I had to make due with spending the holiday at
home again this year. I spent the Labour Day holiday on the
computer working on a new song. Burning Man was this weekend
too so SF was almost like a ghost town. Unfortunately I forgot
about Burning Man and I turned up at Trader Joe's for a bit
of grocery shopping... turns out it was the same day all the
campers picked that day (A Wednesday?) for a bit of last-minute
supply stock-up.

Election '03
Arnold Backs Out
Gubernatorial hopeful Ahnold pulled out of next week's debate
and now the only one he's willing to participate in is the
one that will provide the questions ahead of time. The Shrub
got away with that type of manuever but it won't fly in Cali,
especially with such a short election cycle.

Election '04
Reconstructing Dean
It seems that Howard Dean is polling more than double the
ratings of Senator John Kerry his nearest Democratic rival.
This weekend marked the "official" start of the
campaign... but in the 21st Century, I'd say it's more of
a tradional start than anything based in today's reality.

The
Age of Imperialism
Death Toll Higher Than Ever
This week the death toll from the occupation of Iraq surpasses
the death toll from combat to conquer Iraq. Coupled with fresh
attacks on US troops in Afghanistan and one has to wonder
if the price for their oil is really worth it.
