What
The F*ck?
The TV show is only on three times a week and if I just watched
it without using the Internet, things would be too borring
and lame. It seems that all of the action goes on late at
night and thank goodness for geeks with nothing better to
do than watch the live feeds online and post transcripts on
the web. In this way, I know that Justin poured hot wax on
Alison's chest while the HGs were playing 'Truth or Dare'.
I love all the game-play. The strategizing, back-stabbing
and alliances. This year there seems to be a lot more of that
going on, too much obviously to condense into the three hours
of show-time each week.
Power of Veto
Nate won the POV this week and used it to save Alison. Dana
immediately nominated Dave and he was voted out.
Dave Evicted
Dave was bounced because he was 'such a strong player'. I
think it's tosh. He was bounced coz he's such an annoying
twit.
Alison is HOH
This year's series seems to change on a dime yet again. Off
the block and onto HOH this time was Alison.

Bob Hope Dead (again)
Right-wing conservatives lost another high profile cheerleader
this week. Personally, I thought he died a long time ago but
I guess that's just because he dropped off the corporate media's
radar. He was one of those famous people who did something
cool a long time ago and has been milking it ever since...
kinda like Elizabeth Taylor. My friend Dianne claims that
Elizabeth was once young and pretty, but to me she's just
some old chick who's famous for being friends with Michael
Jackson... Likewise with Bob Hope, he's only famous for being
a war monger on the USO. While I've never considered him as
morrally bankrupt as Charleton Heston, both men were socially
irrelevant long before I was born.

Irwin
back from Europe!
After a couple weeks bouncing round Northern Europe, my pal
Irwin came back to the bay area this week.
He got me a cute little Dutch T-shirt and you'll see it in
September coz I'm thinking I'll wear it to the Folsom Street
Fair. To welcome him back, we decided to head over to Chinatown.
We found a street market in progress at Portsmouth Square. They
had lots of cheap, imported crap on offer, plus greasy food
and tons of VCDs and DVDs. They were in Chinese and I wasn't
feeling quite adventurous enough to buy one. In one corner
of the square however, we found a really great band playing
traditional Chinese instruments. We stayed and listened to
them for a couple of songs before exploring other corners
of the market and eventually had dinner at a nice little restaurant
up the street from the market.

Election '04
Powell Calls it quits
Colin Powell announced the end of his service this week. He
said that even if the shrub wins a second term, he wants nothing
to do with it. While it didn't seem to get enough media coverage
in the short term, I think it's another indication of Bush's
ever widening credibility gap.

The
Age of Imperialism
Death Toll Higher Than Ever
Reports rolled in DAILY about fresh attacks on US forces.
This week, the media was quick to point out that the new attacks
are in response to the killing of Sadam's two sons. But these
are the same types of attacks that American troops have been
experiencing for months.
The Roots of our Imperialism Uncovered
This week a book about the US involvement in the overthrow
of a democratically elected government in Iran in the 1950s
was released. It documents British efforts to thwart the Iranian
leader's attempt at nationalizing Iranian oil production.
They finally got Eisenhower's CIA to do their dirty work by
falsifying a link to communism. The relative ease of destabilizing
the democratic nation of Iran laid the foundation for further
US covert operations for the rest of the 20th Century.
It was a quick-fix solution that had great short-term benefits
but because it led to the Iranian Revolution US action in
the 1950s and 60s, the long-term repercussions are still being
felt to devestating effects on our domestic democracy.
