Equinox

This year, the Vernal Equinox took place on Wednesday March 20th. I celebrated by going to the gym before work as I do every Wednesday. The warm weather had me walking around downtown and some kids had a boom box on a rubbish bin. They were hanging out and smoking clove cigarettes. Every time I smell them, my mind is instantly transported to the early 80s so it was appropriate that they were blasting Prince's "When Doves Cry".

Bunny's long weekend

I went down to LA for a long weekend to hang out with my pal Marc and his BF, Russel. I hadn't seen them since last summer and it was really nice to get out of town for a little while. Marc and I made some time to have a reunion dinner with our high school era pals. (we all went to different schools, but met and became friends in dance clubs) It's always nice to be around people that have known (and loved) me for almost two decades.

World famous botanist returns

The best film ever made about a 500 year-old botanist stranded on Earth was re-released in theaters this week. The film is based on the real life story of one of Louis Lane's college professors, so of course, I had to see it again on the big screen.

Oscar's a grouch

I thought the Academy Awards hype was high in San Francisco, but it's taken to the Nth degree in LA. I saw some of the event on tellie and then my pal Marc and I went round to West Hollywood to pop in on the Elton John Foundation's After Party. We made a bee line for the car after overhearing one guy call the Academy Awards, "Nigga Night". I hope he was talking about all of the chocolate Oscars that were so ubiquitous.

A Really Good Film

To try and avoid some of the Academy Awards stress, Marc and I saw a really nice film in a just opened and highly posh cinema. I highly recommend Monsoon Wedding. It's a bit complicated as it follows about five different story-lines, but if you're able to stick with it, the ending is great! The bride is intolerably beautiful, especially in close-up and the groom looks kinda like my pal Himal in London. Together they make a "perfect for each other" couple and their story line is a bit predictable, but the dad, mum and servant's stories save the film...
