Together.

Some might not know, but back in the day, only white straight people were considered human under American law. Africans and African-American slaves were considered property and couldn't get married so they would jump over a broom to establish their "Domestic Partnership"

Memorials

Memory is such a strange thing, it depends on context and yet it tends to smooth out contextual elements as time goes on. Memorials are born of collective memory solidified to honor events of the past. They help solidify their momentary context even when the distance of time lessens its grip. More immediate memorials help alleviate grief and help bring closure to tragic or heroic events. Here are a few often over looked, but still important, memorials.

Homomonument

The Homomonument was established in Amsterdam to commemorate all of the homosexual men and women that were persecuted during World War Two. Millions of Queers were put to death because of whom they love.

Sometimes its easy to forget

I know I take a lot of things for granted because I live in San Francisco. I know Queer people are still considered like fourth class citizens in the United States and even in San Francisco people are still discriminated against because of whom they love.

Memorials are important because it's so easy to get wrapped up in day-to-day activities and some people deserve more than that.

Homophobia isn't history yet

This was a temporary memorial set up in Soho Square in Central London, UK. It commemorates the victims of the nail bomb attack on the Admiral Duncan Pub, a popular gay pub in Soho, not far from the square. Two of my friends were slightly injured in the attack. This was the second in a series of three bombings that were motivated by intolerance, ignorance and hate.
