2008: Easter In The Park

Once again, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence sponsored their Easter Party in the Park & I was there! I barely had time to relax after all of the excitement to prepare for the Honey Sound System party...(more)

Creative Crowd

This event always draws an interesting mix of creative types both straight and gay. This year I saw an interesting array of Easter Bunnies in the park.

And a lot of interesting looking people - though my pal Jupiter (pictured below) looks like that pretty much all of the time...

Biggest Turnout Ever

There must have been at least four thousand people in the park this year.

The hills around the stage were packed with spectators

Once the show began, there was no way to manuver through the crowd.

Tired Themes

I love when the contestants get all creative with the Jesus theme. Unfortunately every once in a while someone tries to do a variation on the gym theme. Below is this year's Gym Bunny Jesus with his dumbell cross. It was a lot funnier when I saw it five years ago.

Poor "Execution"

Many contestants take the stage on a dare or because it seems like a good idea at the time. Unfortunately with such little planning or preparation they often fail to captivate the crowd & are quickly dispatched from the stage. "Hula Jesus" pictured below is just such a contestant. He seemed confused about how to hula because at one point he just started go-go dancing, badly.

Easter Bonnet

I got to the park too late this year to see the Easter Bonnet contest but I did see some really great bonnets in the crowd like the styrofoam floral number this guy was wearing to purchase some ice cream.

Finalists take the stage for the crowd to vote.

Hunky Jesus

The Greatest Man in History had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet today he hit the park to win an easter basket and the admiration of a rowdy crowd.
