Q's Trip to Seattle

It seemed like everywhere I looked, I could see public displays of art all over town. Here are some photos of my faves...

The Red Monstrocity

We found this ginormous sculpture made mostly of red cyninders elevated on huge supports. Below you'll see my pal Gil walking beneath it:

My pal KC found a similar sculpture at the Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art. (LACMA) and he sent me the photo I've posted below:

Rusty Waves

We didn't realize it while walking through the sculpture garden, but these giant metal waves are hollow inside. We figured it out when we walked up the nearby terraces. I love the way this piece integrates nature with the elements contributing to the rich patina. You can't really tell from the photos (It was a bit overcast when we were there) but the light seems to hug the curves of the sculpture.

You'll notice in the photo that I'm not actually touching the art - I wish other people followed the instructions on the signs posted nearby and did likewise. Unfortunately, some people think scrawling their names or crude limmericks on the art is fun. In some sense though, I suppose that's just another element of the urban landscape and the sculpture was installed to be exposed to the local elements...
