2007 Lazy Bear Weekend

Having LBW the weekend after the Up Yer Alley Street Fair seems to encourage out of towners to make a week-long trip of it.

New Neigh-Bears

My Neigh-Bears last year live in Santa Cruz & they were back this year but they brought even more stuff and decided to pitch their tents closer to their truck. I stayed in the clearing by the river again and this time my new Neigh-Bears were a really great couple from Connecticut - Dean & Eric. It was their first time at the Willows, though they've been to LBW before. We went hiking in the redwood forest on Saturday afternoon and checked out several events together like BMB's Ice Cream Social, The Willows Wine Tasting & several pool parties. They're really fun & I hope they're my neigh-bears again next year.

Camping At The Willows

Once again I was camping at the Willows. The grounds are gorgeous and there's always such a nice vibe, though the last few years have seen a sharp increase in partiers and it's not the peaceful retreat it once was...

I love getting there before
all the tents go up.

Nature in Harmony With Technology

I love getting away from it all without actually going too far away. This year, I didn't have to as there was better wireless internet service at "the big house" and I wasn't the only one with a laptop.

It seems as if my BMB Profile was quite popular on the deck at one point. Now if only I could get consistant mobile phone reception at the Willows to match the new wireless connectivity. At least T-Mobile merged their network with AT&T or something so I can get a fairly strong consistent signal "in town" down the road in Guerneville proper.

Finding New Friends Along The Way

I was super surprised to run into Paul from Chicago at the little bar in Guerneville. Seems he made the trek with a house full of fellas from Chi-Town. We hung out for a bit before he had to leave with his buddies and I was surprised again when he turned up at the bonfire.

Another new friend I made this year is Andy Petit (Apparently pronounce like Pet It)

He's kind of tall so it was fairly easy to spot him in the crowd. He was giving massages in a tent at one of the pool parties. When I saw his name on the flyers & business cards on the table, I said, "Petite? There's nothing petite about him" and from the closed off tent I was immediately corrected - "It's Petit, NOT PETITE"

Since returning to San Francisco, Andy has become my "movie buddy" and on Wednesday nights we've been going to the SF Movie Bears events together.

Lots of Guys From LA This Year

I don't know if they were here in previous years and staying at other resorts, but this year I noticed several distinct packs of people from the greater LA area.

It didn't take me long to find a few "in the industry" and one morning as we were chatting on the deck it came up in conversation that one of the guys from LA had a DVD he put together to pitch a new show idea he came up with. It was very well done and I'll have to keep an eye on the TV guide to see if it turns up on cable soon.
