Need A New Watch?

2007 Gay Days Anaheim

I've been to Disneyland so many times over the last thirty years that now the place has vignettes of history for me around almost every corner.

The real magic of Disneyland for me is making memories & since I haven't been there for about 8 years it was a good time to make some more...

Tacky Tiki Room

I'm surprised that Dole still sponsors The Tiki Room because the animatronic "cho" still includes so many racist overtones. I'll admit the songs are still as infectious and sing-able as ever and the pinapple treats were just as delicious as I remember. Play the video below to hear the Mexican bird say it's "cho time."

Q's Crew

This year I hung out with Irwin, Ggreg Taylor, Tim Taylor & Kent on Saturday with Santiago swapping slots with Tim on Sunday.

Rides & Attractions

The majority of the rides are geared toward a younger demographic but that didn't stop us from checking them out anyway ... (more)

Music Matters

The main parade was built around a song, "Family Fun Time" and I liked it so much I wanted to buy a CD of it. The gal at the music store on Main Street was nice enough to tell me it's a song from the movie "Brother Bear" but she said the soundtrack isn't available and they haven't put the song on a compilation CD.

This was the most incredulous event of the day! Disneyland seems so geared toward commercialism and walking around I got the sense that every square inch of the place is designed to seperate people from their money. If that's the case, how could Disney overlook something so important as the music? I wasn't the only person in the store looking for the song - two other patrons came in asking for it while I was browsing. Considering they have the parade twice a day every day of the season, that's a lot of money that Disney seems to be thumbing their nose at.

It's not just the parade music that is unavailable at Disneyland - they don't sell Barbershop Quartet music or Dixieland Band music even though they pay people to serenade you in those styles all along Main Street. So much for vertical integration...

Main Street USA

Out of all the "lands" that make up Disneyland, Main Street USA has always been my favourite. Tomorrowland had it tied for a while there when, as a teen, I discovered all the plants were actually vegetables but they changed it from 50's futura to Jules Verne futuristic and it suddenly lost all of it's charm for me.

I've always wished there was more to do on Main Street - the Lincoln exhibit is cool when it's running and I love the Fire Station but it's never been interactive enough. My sister remembers there being actual horses in the stalls at the Fire Station, but I don't.

Maybe it's the way Disney does Victoriana or my fascination with the barber shop quartets roaming around but I've always enjoyed hanging out along Main Street.
