I haven't been to New York City since the early 90's so I decided to play tourist and see some of the city.
I'm not much of a tourist. I inadvertently stumbled upon these sites on my way to doing other things.
A QUICK STOP ON CHRISTOPHER STREET
While on the way to meet friends, we passed The Stonewall Bar which is believed by many to be the birthplace of the modern civil rights movement for LGBT people. We only stopped long enough to pose for a couple of photos before searching for a smoothie bar which is far more to my liking than some 40-odd year old tranny bar.
WALKING ON 5TH AVENUE
I had some time to kill on the Friday of my stay so I decided to have a wander. Imagine my surprise when I found the New York Public Library. I took quite a few photos with the famous lions but none of them came to life for me as they did for Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in one of my all-time favourite films, The Wiz.
FURTHER ALONG 5TH AVENUE
I was super stoked to find Marble Collegiate Church a few blocks down from the Public Library. Not because it's one of the oldest churches in the city, even though it is. Not because they had ribbons tied to their fence representing prayers for peace. Though both of those reasons are uplifting enough. What made me happiest about the place was finding out that it was the base of operations for Norman Vincent Peale.
If my pal Rob hadn't pointed out the Empire State Building (Left), I never would have recognized it as we tried to find a vegan restaurant one evening.
I saw the Washington Arch from the bus when my aunt Joan and I were heading over to meet my pal Sarah so I was happy to be able to go back on Monday and get some proper photos.
