Memorial Day wouldn't be the same without at least one BBQ even in New York City

They promoted the BBQ pretty heavily at many of the rugby events throughout the week so it was no surprise to see so many ruggers on the rooftop all afternoon.

THE NOP CORNER
I was hanging out in the corner near the street because it seemed to have a nice breeze blowing through the fence. Many of the Amsterdam ruggers stationed themselves by the tree and it was really fun spending time with them.

A NEW FRIEND
I really enjoyed meeting Tim Stone from the Steelers (Shown at left retuning from the bar with my water). He didn't play with them when I did though I think he said he lived in London around that time. He's been a teacher and a bit of a raver so it was really nice for me to find someone in a bar environment that I could actually have a conversation with instead of the usual bar patter.

TAUNTING RUGGERS
At one point in the afternoon, someone across the roof deck, near the planters and oddly close to Tom Teare's crew - began taunting the guys in my corner. The taunts got more and more lude and crude - as you can see from this relatively tame photo at right. It was hard to hear what they were singing or saying but the Amsterdam ruggers returned the taunts each time until everyone got bored and went back to drinking and chatting.

VEGAN BBQ
I was surprised to find a veggie burger available at the BBQ, still it didn't dissuade me from stopping off for a not dog later...
