2006 Trip To NYC

I haven't been to New York City since the early 90's so when I got the invitation to Matt Hall's birthday party and realized it was the same week as the Bingham Cup, I knew I had to get back to NYC.

Matt hired out the East Balcony of Grand Central Terminal for his Bday Party

NO COCKTAILS FOR ME
Hugh Jackman made me late so I missed most of the cocktail portion of the evening, but I arrived in time to mingle a little with some of the 200 guests before we were urged into the side room where they were serving a buffet dinner. I didn't have to wait in line for food because they had a special vegan thing prepared especially for me.

EATING WITH ENTERTAINMENT
I sat at a table made mostly of Matt's friends from Long Island and we had a front row seat for the Gay Men's Chorus. I think they were a touring group or a chamber group but there were certainly enough of them to sound great. A few people danced and of course between numbers, there were the obligatory speaches and well wishes.

A BEAUTIFUL TRANSITION
After another round of cocktails, everyone posed for a group photo and then the majority of us reassembled in front of Grand Central Terminal to wait for a chartered bus to take us down to Rockafeller Center. Along the way, we sort of adopted two British sailors who were in town for fleet week.

TOP OF THE ROCK
Matt arranged for our group to end the evening on the roof deck at Rockafeller Tower. We seemed to loose people along the way, but our group was still fairly large as we milled around the observation decks and enjoyed the magnificent views.

It was such a wonderful way to end a really beautiful birthday party and a truly, only in New York day. I hope Matt Hall has many more birthdays as fabulous as this one!
