I managed to meet up with a few friends both old and new...

Finding Friends old and new in New York City was one of the main highlights of my trip.

New Friends
CHRISTOPHER STREET
On Friday night, I went down to the village to a little bar that Matt Hall told me to check out. Nothing very remarkable about it other than it gave me the chance to meet this group of guys from Long Island - Ed and Danny live out there and their pal Rick lives in the City. The bar got super crowded and much to my surprise - Tom Teare and his New Jersey crew had settled in near the jukebox while I was sitting with the Long Island guys. I'm not trying to say that New Jersey Ed is more boisterous than Long Island Ed - just that I couldn't miss them once I stood up.

CRAIGER
I met Craiger last year when he came to San Francisco with Matt Hall for Pride. We saw the rugby film together and hung out a little bit while in SF and my trip to NYC gave us a chance to spend more time together.

PREPPY MARK
I met Preppy Mark at The NYC Eagle. I figured anyone that could wear a collared shirt and loafers to a leather bar must be an interesting guy with a strong sense of self and a healthy dose of self esteem. I wasn't wrong and he turned out to be so cool that we ran into him at a few more of the rugby parties. On Monday he took me site-seeing around town before the Washington D.C. Renegades RFC Memorial Day BBQ at the NYC Eagle of course.

DUTCH J.J.
I was surprised to find a Dutch team competing in the Bingham Cup this year. Seems they're still a new team and threw together a squad not quite used to playing with each other. Still, it's a start and it gave me a chance to practice my Dutch with J.J. - I tried to teach him some Americanisms like Jimmy Walker's catch phrase, "DYNOMITE" from the hit 70's sitcom, 'Good Times' you'll remember that Jimmy's character's name on the show was J.J.

STACY'S CREW
I met Stacy at the Duggout on Friday and saw him and his buddies at several more parties, bars and rugby events throughtout the weekend. When we met, he was wearing a polo shirt by Hackett - it was the type favoured by my sailing buddies so I asked him if he was into yachting or just from London where the shirts have become a bit trendy. I think we became friends when he replied, "number 2" and I said, "Oh so you're just really into scat" He looked mortified and his pals bust their guts laughing. Seems he didn't realize that "number 2" is a euphemism in America...
