My Art Excursions in New York City

The Met
ANGLOMANIA
My pal Marc in Long Beach told me about the Anglomania show at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and it's focus on British fashion from the 70s to the 90s. I have always loved the punk and new wave fashions so I decided to check it out with my aunt Joan. She was in the second graduating class at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Their campus is really close to Martha Stewart's Studio. The show was OK for what it was, I kinda felt like they were stretching at times to tie it into their extensive furniture collection. Aunt Joan wasn't impressed with any of the fashions and while it was cool to see Vivian Westwood's kissing cowboys t-shirt in person - I think she had so many better pieces they could have chosen. Still, the Stephen Jones hats and head pieces were cool to see up close.
GENDER-BENDING PHARAOH
We had enough time to go upstairs and check out the display of artifacts from the tomb of
Maatkare Hatshepsut or Hatchepsut. The show premiered in San Francisco and even though it was three blocks away from my house for months, I got so wrapped up in other stuff that I never made time to see it. It seems that Hatshepsut had to officially change her gender to ascend the throne because women couldn't become Pharaoh.
ROOFIES
To top off our time at the Met, we took the elevator up to the rooftop gardin. There were several sculptures (see aligator photo above) and a really nice view of the city.
