Chocolate Factory Tour
Since his BF was sent to India for a month for work, my pal Martin had an extra ticket for the Scharffenberger Chocolate Factory Tour. We went with his University of Chicago Alumni Group.

Pre-Tour Chocolate Class
Before the proper tour began, we were led to a classroom where our guide informed us about all of the various stages in the life of chocolate. She passed around photos and preserved examples of cacao seeds, buds, pods and more. I got to taste all of the samples she passed out and I liked all of them except for the chocolate nibs - they were too crunchy and husky for me.

After Tour: Gift Shop & Factory Cafe
The tour ended convieniently enough in the Scharffenberger Factory Gift Store. We were given discount coupons to use so I got some chocolate covered pinapples, a book for my little Hawaiian friends and some vanilla flavoured sugar to use as a "hostess gift" when I go to Chicago.
The Alumni group had arranged to have lunch in a private room at the Scharffenberger Factory Cafe. The pannini was realy good but I was disappointed to find they contaminated all of the chocoloate with milk and butter so I had to pass on the cake. It looked good so I took a few photos of it and then ate a few of my chocolate covered pinapple.
