Bring In The Big Shots

Spundaze brought in Carl Cox to play the headline set on their float in the Civic Center.

I hung out with him a bunch of times in England and I wanted to get warm so I only heard his first three records before moving on.

2005 Love Parade San Francisco

This year the route was changed to accommodate the Green Day concert at SBC Park. Personally, I liked having the parade going down the Embarcadero and I hope they do that again next year. There are six other parades that go down Market Street and end with a festival in the Civic Center. The Love Parade is unique in that it is supposed to be more participatory and the newly invented neighbourhood of South Beach needs community events like this to anchor it as a real community instead of just a collection of corporate housing towers.

Lawrence & Friends

It was a great surprise running into Lawrence. He's pictured below on the far right. He grew up in San Francisco and I snuck him into my parties when he was only 17. He had the maturity and the right vibe to pull it off and we've been friends ever since. Now that he lives in L.A., we don't see each other as often, but at least we can still share a groove.

Parade Fashion

I saw some really creative fashions as I wandered the festival in the Civic Center. They ran the gamut from home made numbers with fun fur and glue guns to thrift store treasures and high street prizes.

Raving Hoochies

Dance music has always had a sexy element to it so I wasn't surprised to see these raving hoochies hanging in the makeshift "VIP Area" though I wonder who's been taping that ass to get her in there.
