Dyke March in San Francisco
For some reason, gay men are overwhelming supporters of the
patriarchy. In response to this revelation, women loving women
formed the Dyke March

|
|

Startin'
Off Right
The event is headed up by a contingent of 'dykes on bikes'.
They usually roar up the street well in advance of the marchers.
It's an exciting prelude for the Dyke March to follow and
also for the next day's Freedom Day Parade
because they are always the first contingent for that event.

|

Second
Start
A good ten to twenty minutes after the 'dykes on bikes' breeze
by, a truck crawls up the road blasting music. It's often
weighed down with laughing, waving and dancing dykes. Like
last year, peace was a big theme for signs and banners.

Topless
As a fashion statement it seemed ill suited to the arctic
winds blowing down Market Street. As a political statement,
nothing could be more defiant and 'in yer face'. Whatever
their motivation, topless women seemed to be the biggest trend
this year.

P*ssy
Power!
Some of the best political statements are the easiest to
grasp and what could be more simple than pennants extolling
the virtues of the female anatomy?
