It Rained
On The Parade

The Chinese New Year Parade is always pretty fun. It's a night-time pagan celebration through the streets of San Francisco. The event is televised but this year my pal Marc was in town so I went out with him instead of watching the rainy parade on Tellie.

Rammin' & Jammin'!

Because it's a pagan holiday, Chinese New Year is based on a Lunar Calendar and is actually a festival that starts on the New Moon and Ends with a big Parade on the Full Moon. Each year of the old calendar is symbolized by a sign of the Chinese Zodiak. Each sign is represented by a different animal.

This is the year of the ram, it's a male sheep
so if you're the black sheep of your family:
It's you're time to shine!

Foxy Fantastic

E.G. rang me up about twenty minutes before they were due to start. By the time I got down to the venue, there was a huge queue out front and no guest list line. By the time they finally got the front door sorted out and the guest list/will-call line set-up, I had missed more than half their set.

I got in to see the last four numbers and it was fantastic. Their new sound suits them so much better than anything I've heard them do. If you're familiar with the Brand New Heavies club hit, "You Are the Universe", then you'll know where they're coming from. It's a fusion of rock-ish guitars, funky bass, uplifting, conciousness expanding lyrics and Foxgluv adds more hip-hop elements with Trevor's rap. It was great to hang out with them after the show and a very good confirmation of our enduring friendship.

construction coneDancing for Doc

We've been playing phone tag since Christmas, so it was great to finally get some face-time with Doc. His fiance was with him so I got to hang out with her as well. He's off to Japan on Wednesday, then back to L.A. and he'll be back in SF in a couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to spending more time with him away from the distractions of the party.
