My little friend Kai made his debut at the
Castro Street Fair. He's only seven weeks old and I thought
he might get out sooner. Apparently he was acting up last
week, so his mum and dad didn't make it to the Folsom Street
Fair last week.

Working the Street - 2003
My pal Puppy had his own crew to pal around with this year
so I got Irwin to tool around with me and check out the fair.

Pre-Party
Tom Teare had a little cocktail party at his new pad. He
moved in a few weeks ago so it was kinda like a housewarming
party, except the spread was all about brunch type offerings;
bagels, quiche and cosmopolitans. Before you get all wondering
where the pix of Tom are, he seemed to close his eyes whenever
I whipped out the camera, so you'll have to make due with
the pic of Irwin and I. We got there a little later than I
would have liked, but early enough to meet a great group of
people. After settling in with a couple of drinks (Still water
for me!) Irwin and I were treated to light party banter. It
was supposed to be cold all weekend and Saturday was, so Irwin
could be forgiven for wearing a sweatshirt. Tom wouldn't let
him leave without being appropriately dressed and treated
Irwin to his choice of T-shirts. After a few topless turns
in front of the crowd that suddenly formed around him, Irwin
and I headed down the hill to the Street Fair.

Finding
Friends
Of course my favourite activity at Street Fairs and public
events like this is finding friends wandering through the
crowds. I don't know how Irwin put up with me stopping all
the time to converse with someone new. While I didn't photograph
everyone I talked to, I did snap a few
pix...
I'm still trying to figure out how my pal Puppy can find
all these other puppies to play with. It's
like a habit with him now.

Look how little they are
No matter how tall some of my friends are, standing next
to me seems to make them look rather short...

"Entertainment"
The Main Stage at Castro and Market street was once again
quite confusing. They had a mylar sign on the back wall that
said "Mighty Real" with a drawing of Sylvester from
one of his records. Instead of having anything to do with
Sylvester however, the acts on the stage seemed to be the
usual cavalcade of local talent and drag queens who make the
rounds of these types of events.
The real draw at this street fair is the 'art' littering
the street in booths of various sizes. I was surprised to
find a few of my artier pals tucked into their own "Sugar
Valley" section of 18th street. Justin had his comix
all splayed out while his partner Nash hawked T-shirts. A
really cool camp electo act performed between their booth
and my friend Tony's. Pictured above left, Tony was selling
a few of his hand crafted light fixtures.
