A Rave Called Andie

The Bored Collective sponsored a fundraiser to celebrate the health and life of Andie P. Cotton - a beautiful friend, a wonderful mother, wife, and a fierce, booty-shaking old skool SF raver.

Andie, whose son Dexter just turned 3, helped launch some of the city's most legendary parties, including Come-Unity and the Full
Moon Massive. Andie has given the San Francisco dance community a lot of energy & a lot of love over the years so it felt really good to be able to show our love and appreciation. The fact that the fundraiser was held on a full moon underscored just how much we've come in our dancing days.

Cotton Pickin' Minute

I had to wait a little while for a bit of 121 time with Ms. Cotton, but it was definately worth it as we haven't really seen each other for about 7 years. She moved to Santa Cruz and then I moved to England and since I've been back, she's been doing the married and mom thing. Now she lives down the hill from V-Ness, so I promised to get her and her hubby hooked into the Tiki Lounge party scene.

Andie's hubby was very supportive and let her be the star of attention all night long. Of course, that was easy to do as the music was really nice for much of the night.

My pal Shazza (aka Rave Called Sharon) was on the door and she really set the tone and the style for the event by greeting everyone with that beautiful smile! Inside, Miguel (aka Single Cell Orchestra) was playing some music upstairs to keep the nice vibe flowing strong.

Built by Billee

My pal Billie is the main force behind the Bored Collective. Yeah she's got collaborators, but none of it would happen without her hard work and solid dedication. She's producing three parties this month, with two kids, a dog and a husband to mind as well so she's more than earned a ton of respect from me just for staying not only sane, but happy and upbeat as well! Billee Rox!

Really was a 'rave'

Obviously I didn't get the memo or email about featuring the retro rave gear. Luckily DJ Pollywog was in full regalia, keeping it real and holding the light for a fading era of rave KULCHA.

SPUN [ A RAVE CALLED SHARON]
SIMON [ COME-UNITY]
JENÖ [ WICKED]
JONAH SHARP [REFLECTIVE]
NICK PHILIP [ BIG CHILL]
POLYWOG [ POND LIFE]
SINGLE CELL ORCHESTRA [ DJ SET ]
SHOBHAN [ ASS BOMB]
COREY BLACK [ IMPERIAL DUB]
NIKOLA BAYTALA [ SOULFOOD ]
OST [ QUIPOTHIC ]

I checked out most of the sets, except for Simon coz I left at 2 and Nick who may have played before I got there. It was nice seeing Jenö for a few minutes before he started spinning records. It was too dark to take photos down in the basement but I still spent quite a while down there getting a groove on.

It was so nice seeing old friends and sharing such a nice party together, just like old times!
