Bob & Rose
This
is a British TV series about a gay man who falls in love with a straight
woman. It deals with the fluidity of sexuality in a touching way. It was
written by Russell Davies who also created and wrote the British version
of Queer As Folk. True to form, Bob & Rose was just as controversial
and should be an exciting addition to this year's film festival.

Russell
Davies
I'm friends with Russell
and I was excited to see that his work was being shown again. I hoped
he would attend the film festival this year, so I rang him up and kept
getting his answerphone. He finally emailed me to say he's currently working
on his on again off again "second comming" project. Here's what
he had to say about the film festival and "Bob & Rose":
"We keep filming
for another five weeks, so I can't make it to SF. Those nice film festival
people tried their damndest to get me there - they even offered a first-class
air ticket (it was economy last time!) but I had to turn them down. This
shoot is just too complicated and intense to leave, even for a week. Damn
it all. i'd love to see Bob & Rose in San Francisco! And never mind
that, it would've been lovely to see you again. Bollocks, i've cocked
it all up once again. such a shame.
I do hope you get
the chance to see B&R, though. It's a lovely, delicate piece of work.
Strangely, it won me the award for Comedy Writer of the Year over here...
I say 'strangely', cos I don't think it's *that* funny!!! It's more of
a drama in my mind. But people see what they want to see, I suppose. Let
me know how it goes down. Of course, it drives away that older, more conservative
gay audience, cos it's about a gay man falling in love with a woman, so
lots of gay men have decried it and walked out... but
fuck it, who needs them?!"
