2002 Events: Queer Film Festival

Frameline Presents...

A longer festival at fewer venues this year. It's good because I don't have so many scheduling conflicts between venues and I won't have to miss movies because they're playing at the same time. It's bad because there's more opportunity for scheduling conflicts with other things in my life. I'm missing over a week of the festival this year because I'll be working for my pal Dianne and also working at the rugby tournament that commemorates my pal Mark. So for me, this year's festival really only lasts about ten days.

I have tickets to see 12 films in 10 days:

Group

Foreign Tongues

Straights-ploitation

Whether You Like It or Not: The Story of Hedwig

Instructions Enclosed

Ke Kulana He Mahu: Remembering a Sense of Place

Looking for Langston

The Man I Love (L'Homme Que J'Aime)

Young Soul Rebels

History of Masturbation

P.S. Your Cat is Dead

Britney Baby -One More Time

Check out the Q Reviews™

I have some info about the screenings of "Bob & Rose" I don't have tickets to see it, but I'm thinking of going to see it at the LA film festival with my pal Russell...

You can check out the Q Reviews™ from last year's film festivaL

This year, the Q Reviews™ don't have story summaries because you can read about them on the Frameline Site or just Google the film's title. The Q Reviews™ DO include the same great commentary you've come to expect, but new for 2002, we're including CARROTS!

So should you see it?

No carrots filled in is a definate NO
One carrot is a negative maybe
Two carrots are a positive maybe and
Three carrots are a definate YES!

Or, to put it another way:
0= Don't bother
1= Only go if someone's forcing you to see it.
2= It's OK and perhaps entertaining if you're in the mood.
3= LOVED IT... see it straight away.

Please Note: Collections of shorts will not have carrots because they won't be screened together again and it's too time consuming for me to deal with right now.

Venues

Due to shifting market conditions, the Victoria and the Roxie were either closed down, or threatened with being closed down so Frameline wasn't able to book them for screenings. Instead, they got the Herbst Theatre and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theatre, both of which are made for live performances and they kinda suck for film. The Castro Cinema is beautiful and its renovated seating is much more comfortable but it still sucks to see G&L film fest screenings there. I think it's because there are far too many members and seat saving. I'll admit I've saved seats and I'm a member, but as a member it sucks to arrive a half hour to even an hour early and still have shitty seats just because I want to sit next to someone I know.
