Chinese New Year

This year the Chinese New Year festivities start at the new moon on February 12th. With the large Chinese population in San Francisco, this is quite a celebration. There's a parade through China Town on the full moon, February 23rd.

The parade is always fun, but somewhat loud as the superstitious ones set off a ton of firecrackers to frighten "evil" spirits...

Horsing Around

This is the start of the year of the Horse. According to a Chinese Astrological forecast I read in Chinatown, My Year of the Horse Forecast is:

Creative instincts surpass expectations in May. By August your new ideas will have found form. Keeping yourself together will be challenging amidst all the excitement in autumn.

I do have an exciting autumnal trip planned, so maybe there's something to all this forecasting stuff...

VD is Around the Corner

Because February is also the month of love, I thought it would be interesting to see what Chinese Astrology could tell me about my valentine potential. Apparently male Monkeys are compatible with the following signs:

Love: Rabbit, Rat, Dragon, and other Monkey

Friendship: Ox, Tiger, Horse, Rooster, and Pig

The Monkey is an immensely creative man, almost to the point of compulsion. Nothing comes between the Monkey and his projects.

Understanding this, you can insert yourself in his life by flattering anything he creates, be it poetry, painting or pretzel-basting (Or his Web Sites). The Monkey's art is his ego, (You're soaking in it) and the highway to his heart as well.

Secret pickup line: "I'd love it if you'd draw a sketch of me."

Shortly after Buddha ascended to heaven, 12 animals went to visit him. These later became the icons for Chinese Astrology.

I was born in the year of the Monkey, maybe that's why I always loved the Monkees.

Other famous "monkeys" are Pope John
Paul II, and Will Smith.
