2001 Events: Southern Decadence

When you twirl into Old Dog New Trick Cafe, tell 'em Q sent ya!

Natural, home cooked style vegetarian cuisine in a part of the country where most people don't know that seafood isn't a vegetable, and most restaurants don't know the difference between meat-free and vegetarian. It makes Old Dog New Trick Cafe all the more precious.

Chad at the Old Dog New Trick RestaurantThey've just opened up a new location (see map below.) It's bigger, but still just as packed. The new decor is modern, trendy and comfortable. I was panicked to find that the French Quarter location has been closed for the summer while they concentrated on the new one. I chose my hotel because of its close proximity to the original location. I didn't mind walking all the way to the cafe twice a day this year as it gave me an excuse to eat more cake. (besides, it wasn't as hot and humid as last year.) I'm just so grateful to have real vegan food.

Chad from Old Dog New Trick CafeThe clientele is made up mostly of locals and regulars. Young hipsters, college kids and health conscious couples out for a great meal. The wait-staff is extremely friendly and out going (and in Chad's case, a bit hyper) so be sure to tell them you read about them at Quartknee.com...
