2001 Events: Southern Decadence

Ron's Clique at Southern DecadenceRon is so decadent, he brought his own entourage

Steve and Louie bailed this year, but their absence was lessened by the addition of Matthew, Chuck, Duncan, and Tommy. We all had a blast at the posh Bourbon Orleans Hotel where Ron stays every year. We even managed to get chuck our for a bit of a wander every now and then, though he much preferred the atmosphere in the hotel bar...

Q and Coe at Southern DecadenceHalf of San Francisco must be here for Southern Decadence

I saw a lot of people I know from San Francisco wandering about on the streets of New Orleans over the course of the weekend. I ran into my pal Coe (He's standing on a step in the photo) and his crew at the Bourbon Pub. I don't go out much in San Francisco, so I stood around a while watching them drink lots of alcohol and feign interest in the video screens. Which is something we NEVER do at the Midnight Sun (Well, at least we don't do it anymore now that Jimmy moved to Florida). It's always nice running into Coe and his little family.

Jasper enjoys Southern DecadenceMooi in Zijn Onderbroek

Hoe laat is het? Het is bier uur met zijn Heineken! I met some new people this year and a couple of them even mentioned coming out to San Francisco for the Folsom Street Fair as well. My friend Chris spotted this guy and his boyfriend earlier in the afternoon, when I saw them again on Sunday night, I wandered over for a chat. After a quick round of "is that really your name?" this guy thought his name was unusual as well. He's called Jasper. I hated to tell him that I know three Jaspers and a "yes-par" spelled, Jespar. He was such a good sport, that I promised to put his pic on my site. I hope to spot him on Folsom Street soon and have another chuckle...

This year the fun factor dipped a bit as the novelty aspect wore off a little.
