This one was a bit heavy on the "DIY" and too light on the "movies"

It was a collection of Super8 "home movies" made at a time when other documentary media didn't exist. That fact alone makes them worthy of an academic archive (but not really worth a public exposition)

Even my pal Danny's film seemed too raw, and unfinished. The short staccato snippets streamed silently like apparitions from an evaporated era. I think non-linear narratives are best in this short format, unfortunately these seemed uninspired by their subjects and are important only because they document a social context that has disappeared.

It was easy to see why the Derek Jarman pieces have never been included in the two retrospectives of his work that I've seen in London and L.A. It was nice that he put a soundtrack on his offerings as most of the other contributions were silent. (read:boring)
