2001 Events: Castro Street Fair

The Summer Social Calendar ends with WAR

The sedate atmosphere of the Castro Street Fair was exaggerated this year by the shadow of the "president's" military action against "terrorists". Overall, I had an ok time. I hung out with Puppy and his new BF and their friends for most of the day. It was tough trying to reign in their drunken shenanigans, but here's some of the highlights...

It's always nice running into friends at these big events. This year the friend factor seemed to dip a bit, and this year we could blame it on the weather and the "war". In spite of the gray skies and gloomy current events, people were looking for a few distractions. After a few drinks, puppy was driving me to distraction, but that was only when he was trying to set me up with some stoner guy. My gym sponsored a booth to do some recruitment so I just hung out there until Puppy got distracted and left the stoner guy.

Lindsey enjoys the Castro Street FairSome straight girls love these big gay events

It was nice seeing Lindsey again. She told me all about her latest trip to the Netherlands. I haven't seen her since June (Pink Saturday and SF Pride™) Mikey was with her, but he didn't want his picture taken. Apparently he had too much fun the night before and wasn't really feeling it for an afternoon party. Sam was there too, but he was too busy with his entourage to really talk to me. I'm sure I'll see them at the next big gay event...

I was wondering how to make this section look really really
GAY
to reflect the gayest neighbourhood in the city, so I took a picture of the worlds largest Pride® Flag. It flies at Harvey Milk Plaza, which is named after the most famous gay martyr, "the mayor of Castro Street"
