2001 Events: Anarchist Book Fair

I didn't go this year

Before you start labeling me "sellout"... let me say, now that I'm middle aged (in Gay years I'm 45) I need my sleep and I was awake for about 28 hours before the book fair started. I thought about just attending the panel discussions in the afternoon, but then I went back to sleep.

A Jam Packed Night

The night before, I hung out with the Foxies after working a full 8 hours. We had dinner at a very nice vegetarian restaurant and then went to The Punchline to hear comedian Greg Proost (He's from SF, but starred in the UK version of "Who's line is it anyway?" while the three of us lived there) Then we went out dancing... All night long.

A Special Event

It was the 10th anniversary of "Wicked" and since I'm one of the founding members of the "Wicked Sound System", I had to be there the night before the book fair.

We sold the sound system to CB (now it's called "The Purple People Pusher") but three of the DJs continue doing monthly events under the Wicked moniker.

A Memorable Mix

It was the first time in about a year that I danced all night. The music was a great mix of records that came out 12 days ago peppered with stuff that came out 12 years ago.

Our pal Harvey (from London's Tonka Sound System) Finished the night with an incredibly eclectic set that will be remembered for quite awhile. I'm sure I'll spend the next 10 years looking for that female vocal he dropped around 5:30 am (The one that goes, "Come over to my place" The soulful vocal over that bass hook was so infectious that I can still conger it in my mind a month later!)
