2000 Events: Southern Decadence

What's it like?

If you’ve ever been to a party where the crowd just goes so ballistic for a new record, that the DJ lets it play all the way through and then drops the needle at the beginning of the same song to play it a second time all the way through… Well, this isn’t one of those parties…

If you’ve ever been to a party where there’s chicks with dicks pissing on midgets... This isn’t one of those parties…

If you’ve ever been to one of Jack Davis’ birthday parties... It's kinda like that…

I’ve never been to a slave state before and it was really strange to see how racist some people are. I thought the plethora of confederate flags was highly offensive and yet the locals didn’t seem to notice or mind them… maybe convenience really does breed indifference.

I stayed at the Hilton, which was far enough away from the French Quarter to prove relaxing and yet just close enough to stumble home at night.

Q with Ron, Steve and LouieAlone, but with friends

I went to New Orleans by myself, knowing that my friends would be there. Ron has been to Southern Decadence many times and he's been trying to get me to go for years, but there’s always been something else to do that weekend… Well, not this year!

I always have fun when I hook up with Ron on holiday (like in England in 1999 and the Netherlands in 1998) and this time it was no exception.

Guys from all over

It seems as if half of Texas and San Diego attended this year, with a strong showing from San Francisco and Florida… Louis (the local) showed me around a bit and introduced me to several of his friends. He said that New Orleans has two leather midgets which seems pretty decadent considering that there's only one left in San Francisco. I didn't see them wandering through the crowds. It's easier for me to see up and out rather than down in those types of situations. I did meet a tall guy (6'6) from upstate New York and another tall guy (6'7) from L.A. I even met a couple of ex-Londoners (the arsenal football jersey stands out in the crowd better over here for some reason)

Lots of fun

The influx of tourists creates a non-stop party for the whole weekend. Of course, the 24-hour drinks law helps...Click for More SoDec FUN...
