People 2 Meet: The 90s

These are the last of the 90s type people that I've wanted to meet for years, but for various reasons, they've all been elusive. Given enough time however, I'm sure they can't hide forever. Louis is far too cleaver for that.

Sylvia Millecam

She shares her birthday with Doc Martin, so I think I'll get on with her well when I do get to meet her. After releasing a single called, "Amsterdam Miks", she's probably only world famous in the Netherlands. I think she's a totally funny comedienne and singer. I loved her album, "Lekker Puh". Now she's a TV presenter on Dutch tellie. My friend Luuk told me that she used to be a Playboy bunny, so now I lover her even more!...

Due to tragic circumstances, I'll have to take Sylvia off of this list.

MC Kinky

I love how she incorporated dancehall riddims into house. She did a lot of stuff with Boy George including the vocals on the club-hit, "Everything Starts With an 'E'" for his More Protein record label. It really set the tone and the style for early 90s cross-over Acid House. Boy George almost introduced us at the London hotspot, Kinky Gurlinky, but I got to the club after she left. He said I'd have a chance to meet her the next time he DJed at Ministry of Sound, but she never turned up at the club.

DJ DUKE

I've sort of already met him. My friend Pete brought him to San Francisco for a party and I thought he was cute and said "Hi" when Pete introduced us. I was familiar with his work and told him I liked a couple of his re-mixes. During his set, he played, "Work That Muther F*cker" and a really incredible syncopated bell and drum bit that was awesome. By the time he finished playing, I had gone home (my ride was tired!). The reason I want to meet him again, is because my pal Moby told me that he's a sober, queer vegan (like me!)

Pal Joey

His music is so lush, and deep. I love the way he brings in elements like flutes or synth and just plays with their harmonic structure in a mellow, jazzy style. His mixes are always so pretty and uplifting. He's done remixes for Dee-Lite and when I was on tour with them, DJ Dimitri said he would introduce me to Pal Joey, but the three of us have yet to be in the same city simultaneously.
